Specific Carbohydrate Diet Recipes
The Specific Carbohydrate Diet is sometimes called the SCD.
The SCD is a nourishing whole foods diet that has helped many people with gluten issues, allergies and digestive problems.
The SCD is sometimes referred to as the original gluten free diet. It’s similar to Paleo Diets because it eliminates grains.
What I always find interesting is that most of the foods that you are supposed to avoid on the SCD are foods I’ve had trouble with – not just gluten foods, certain fruits and vegetables.
Learn how to properly follow the SCD from the original book:

Note: I don’t agree with the SCD author’s belief that once you follow this diet for a year, you can go back to eating gluten again. I’ve known many people who have definitely not experienced that.
Unless you can regularly be scanned and tested to make sure you aren’t being affected by gluten for sure (I can’t imagine how much it would cost to be checked so much, so often, and so many body systems), then based on current findings and research, it’s best to avoid gluten if you have ever been sensitive to it.
Also, I do not like the heavy reliance on almonds in the SCD diet. I think that limiting the use of nuts is best, except for special occasions because they are hard to digest and are very high in PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids).

Great write up about the SCD Diet. I lived a strict Gluten Free diet for 2 years after my Celiac Diagnosis and I never got any better. 7 days on the SCD Diet (a dairy free version just like you mentioned) and I felt normal again… now I have been on it almost two years and I feel great!
I agree with your thoughts about what the book says about going back to Gluten… I would never be able to do that, I probably won’t even be able to go back to any grains again… but who cares, I feel great! The diet can be really challenging to start because it is vitally important that you start it right by doing the 3-5 day intro diet properly. If it helps anyone, there is a free guide to starting the intro diet properly here: http://www.scdlifestylebook.com/free.php
In good health,

Hi Jordan,
That’s fantastic that the SCD helped you so much! I have heard/read so many good stories from people who follow the SCD carefully.
I hope that anyone who has gone gluten free and still doesn’t feel good considers it. Or anyone with mysterious digestive problems, or any health problems for that matter!
I just downloaded the free guide and look forward to reading it. Thank you for posting and telling me, and others, about it! Looks like an excellent resource. :)

A note to everyone: I liked Jordan’s free guide (I should credit his co-author, Steve, too) so much that I purchased his book. It’s excellent! So clear and helpful. Definitely visit the link to get the free chapter and consider buying it.
The cooking instructions, with step-by-step pictures, are really helpful. So is the insider knowledge about what it’s like to be on the SCD.
Awesome. Great value for the money.
