Hunter Gatherer Diet
The I usually eat, and highly recommend, can be described as a hunter-gatherer diet.
Paleo Diet is sometimes used to describe a similar thing, but the books that outline Paleo Diets are usually far more strict about dairy and potatoes.
Hunter-gatherer diets are usually gluten and grain free. The carbohydrates in a hunter-gatherer diet come from primarily from fruit and starchy vegetables, such as potatoes.
I definitely do best on a grain diet. I will eat small amounts of gluten free grains on rare occasion, like twice a year. Quinoa seems to be the best for me in terms of digestion among the various choices. Quinoa is a seed that is grain-like in texture and taste.
A hunter gatherer diet can be quite economical and much healthier than a gluten free diet that relies heavily on packaged gluten free grain based products.
To learn more about real hunter gatherer diets (rather than simply what diet gurus cobble together), I recommend the following article:

As you’ll see, hunter gatherer diets are usually rich in animal foods (supplying protein and fat) and low in leafy vegetables and grains. Carbohydrates come primarily from fruit and starchy vegetables.
